What Your Esthetician Wants You To Know - Lash Lifting Part III

Anything that I offer here at Essential Esthetics by Zoey I have experienced. What you gain by coming to see me if that I’ve been trained and certified to offer these services PLUS I have experienced them on the other side of the table. This is very important to me. I want to know what the treatments feel like, so that I can do a better job describing what you as the client will experience any time that you receive an unfamiliar service from me. I work to always stay up to date on trends and education in all realms of skincare, waxing, and lash lifting.

If you’ve never had a lash lifting service before, I’d love to share with you what your Esthetician wants you to know. Here are a couple of my top shares!

#1 - A lash lift is not the same as eyelash extensions. People like to compare them, but they are just so different. If you are looking to truly add width, you may want to explore eyelash extensions.

#2 - Your eyes will need to remain closed all the way. If your eyes are opened at all, the product can irritate you. We definitely don’t want that. We want to keep them happy, healthy and white.

#3 - When removing the products, if you squeeze your eyes tightly, it actually will draw the product inside the eyelid instead of wiping it away. Remain relaxed and your Esthetician will not only be able to do it faster, but also with less rubbing. Also, if your eyes are sensitive or twitchy, you may want to stick to your eyelash curler at home.

#4 - Make sure that you are following the aftercare. If you don’t … you’ll shorten the length of the lash lift. Our goal is always to get 6 weeks from this treatment.

#5 - Consider using a lash conditioner. Yes, your Esthetician may not have even mention it (I know I’m guilty.) But because this is a chemical process and the eyelash itself is delicate, you will receive a better result if you condition lashes starting 72 hours after a lift.

#6 - Did things not go exactly how you wanted it to? Your Esthetician really wants to know … because we can document if we need to shorten or extend your process time, change to a different rod, start on the left eye instead of the right, etc. We can’t change what we don’t know is bothering you. When you come in 6-8 weeks later, you may have forgotten the changes you were looking for. Reach out to let them know if it’s too curly, not curly enough so your lash artist can add notes for your next appointment.

Eyelashes are delicate, but beautiful in their natural state. A lash lift may be right for you! Or it may not. This is one service that I really think you have to try to see if you like it or if you are better suited for eyelash extensions.

First Time Lash Lift Answers

If you’ve never had a lash lift, but always wanted to, let’s chat. You may think you have seen it all on tik tok, but I’d love to share some helpful tips for you to get you the best results possible.

Before your appointment

You’ll want to remove any and all eye makeup. This makes it easier not only for the Esthetician, but also allow the products for lash lifting to work better.

You’ll also want to know the after care as you are planning out your week. I send a text to new clients about what they need to avoid in order for the lash lift to be long lasting.

During your appointment

Your eyes will be closed for the appointment. I like to describe the process as I’m working, because if you are anything like me, it’s a little weird when you aren’t sure what’s happening.

My description goes something like this. If you imagine a solid pringles can, split that in half. The flat side of the silicon rod will go on your eyelid and then rounded side will be where we place the lashes. The adhesive is water based, so when we rinse at the end, it will come off pretty easily. Making sure the lashes are in the best placement possible is the longest part of the appointment.

You’ll be welcomed into the 80s with the perm vibe. That is the lifting solution. After the lifting solution, there is a setting solution. All of these are wiped away and your new lifted lashes will be revealed. It’s always such an exciting process. However, once you put on mascara, you’ll be able to see the full results as the lash lift cannot add volume to the lashes.

After your appointment

You’ll want to make sure that you follow the instructions to make your lash lift last and to get the most out of them.

For 24 hours -

• No mascara, eye makeup

• Keep them dry and don’t touch them

• No eye creams

For 48 hours -

• No steam

• No saunas

• No swimming

• No lash growth serums

If you love it, you’ll want to come back about every 6 to 8 weeks to get the new lashes that weren’t lifted up the last time. This is one of the easiest treatments that gives you instant results without all of the spa time needed for extensions. I’d love to help you try it out, so let’s get you on the schedule!

Having Realistic Expectations

lucrezia-carnelos-kn6QrWtnAtY-unsplash.jpg

There are so many things that we’d like to change about ourselves. Technology is booming and we are seeing and hearing what we feel like are instant results. But in case you didn’t know, I’m going to burst your bubble. Some things take time, and it’s important to have realistic expectations.

Intimate Waxing

When coming in for a waxing service, you really are wanting to be hair free! We try and catch the hair in the growing cycle to get you smooth the longest that we can. The first wax is always a good one. When you come in for future appointments, you’ll have about half of the hair back. Since we can only wax the hair that is outside of the skin, the other hairs will pop back through slowly over time. But if you have a hair come out a couple days later, this is to be expected. The great thing is that they don’t all come through at once … and they are finer and thinner.

Facials and Skin

We all have something that we’d like to change about our skin. Since our bodies are constantly aging, a lot of what we do is slowing down the aging process. Plus taking care of acne and sun damage, etc. If we are working on acne, you will need a minimum of 4 months to clear … and that’s if we get everything right and figure out your triggers. For sun damage, I like to hit those hard starting in September, but encourage limiting sun exposure and wearing SPF all year round. This takes a lot of time too.

Clients want a magic wand to be waved … and poof! Your problems are fixed. Many of them want the things fixed in one facial. That’s just not possible to do that. Also, many clients will listen to recommendations, but then don’t purchase any of the home care items. That isn’t going to get to you where you want to be. Home care products that contain active ingredients are great, but sometimes they also take time to work in the skin.

Lash Lifting

We’d love to perm up the eyelashes and have them look just like extensions. But they are very different. Extensions do just that. They can extend the length and also the appearance to make them look thicker and fuller. Lash lifting is working with your natural lash. If you just aren’t there with length, you’ll want to purchase the lash serum offered and be patient in waiting for them to be longer. The lash lifting won’t volumize that, so almost every client will still wear mascara when they receive a lash lift. One final thought here… If you have blonde or light eyelashes, you really should consider doing a lash lift and tint together. I think you’d like that much better.

So, if you are thinking it’s too good to be true, it might just be! Instead of trusting that Instagram Influencer or the latest Tik Tok video, ask your Esthetician. They know your skin, hair, and lashes and can customize the treatments and take home products just for you!

If you want better looking eyelashes, but don't want to put something synthetic on your natural lashes, eyelash lifting is going a great choice for you! Eyelashes growing straight out don't look that long. But when they are lifted up and curled, you can definitely notice them more!

Pros - Time Saver!

The problem for most women is that this takes time with a manual eyelash curler or a heated eyelash curler, eyelash primer, and then mascara. You would curl your lashes every morning, get everything in place and go on with your day. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Want to cut out 5 minutes of your morning routine? In walks eyelash lifting! Pros - Great lashes on the beach and at the pool everytime!

Because you are just using your natural lashes, you don't have to worry about getting your lashes wet or what the water will do to them. Combine the lash lifting service with a tint, and you are pretty set to not even wear mascara on those beach days. While lash lifting typically lasts 6-8 weeks, lash tinting lasts an average of 3-4 weeks.

Pros - Get va-va-voom when you want or keep it simple!

It's easy to get a va-va-voom with lash lifting. Just add on mascara (or primer and mascara) and see them lift a little more and thicken a little more. Or you can choose to keep it simple and just wear them with the lash and tint. It's very easy!

Pretty Little Lashes

"Eyes are the window to the soul." It's a good one. So much light and life of a person's face are found through the eyes. Whether you are happy or hurting, it's hard for the eyes to hide that.

Why not accent your best facial feature?

Pretty Little Lashes .jpg

I am blessed to work on gorgeous women everyday! Facials, waxing, and lash lifts are some of my favorite services to help clients with. There are so many fun options with me that it's sometimes hard to choose.

Have you heard this proverb before? "Eyes are the window to the soul." It's a good one. So much light and life of a person's face are found through the eyes. Whether you are happy or hurting, it's hard for the eyes to hide that.

Why not accent your best facial feature? Two ways to do that are through the framing (which are the brows - and another blog post coming a website near you soon) and lashes. Most women have incredible eyelashes! There are a couple of things that we can do to enhance them and ways that we can protect what we already have.

1) Curl Then Apply Mascara

Never apply mascara and then use a curling tool. This will make your lashes more susceptible to breaking and falling out because it can cling to the curler.

2) Be Picky About Mascara

Let's have a chat ladies. With so many options, how do you really choose a great mascara? I've been searching and trying new ones every couple months. Waterproof mascara can be more drying, which can dry out the eyelash itself. Replace your mascara every 3 months to avoid infections and lash mites. (Yes, they are a real thing.)

3) Remove Each And Every Day

Do not forget to remove each night. Do not pass go and collect $200. This rule seems simple, but is often not followed. If you don't remove the mascara and eye makeup properly, it can make your lashes become stiff... which again can lead to falling out and breaking off. A recipe that we all want to avoid. My FAVORITE lash cleanser is the newest to hit the RevitaLash line called Micellar Water. It's really delightful and my favorite product for 2018.

4) Use A Lash Serum

A lash serum or conditioner will condition your lashes to help them be at their optimal health. What does that look like? It looks like fuller more beautiful lashes. RevitaLash Advanced keeps eye health and safety at the forefront. Which translates into peace of mind.

5) Try A Lash Lift

Lash lifting has been all the rage for the past 2 years in the United States and can definitely enhance what you already have. This treatment is done by placing the eyelashes on a curved rod and applying solution to natural lash which lifts and then sets the curl. This can be dramatic for clients with lashes that tend to grow straight out or even slightly downward. I have seen incredible results and would love to help show you what this service could do for you.

Have more questions? Let's set up a consultation and I can personally answer them for you!

How to Choose between Eyelash Extensions and Lash Lifting

For those of you who want a little fleck of fun and pop on your eyes, you may be considering coming to the spa and your favorite Esthetician. But how do you really choose between Eyelash Extensions and the Lash Lift? I'm here to break down the pros and cons of each service so that you can decide which one is right for you!

Eyelash Extensions

I consider this the big sister of the family. Eyelash Extensions have been used for a long time (1902 and 1903 in the UK and London, as well as in 1911 in the United States.) But they have been overshadowed by the easy false lashes until approximately 2000. Eyelash Extensions have made a statement and look like they are here to stay for the long haul.

There are 2 main variations - Classic Eyelash Extensions and Volume Eyelash Extensions. Classic Eyelash Extensions are applied one to one (one synthetic to one natural lash). This service can give a bold or soft look and generally range using eyelash weights of .20 mm or .15 mm. Volume Eyelash Extensions include making a handmade fan of lashes (2 to 6), with weights significantly lower (.10 mm, .07 mm, .05 mm and now even .03 mm.) Theses handmade fans are placed on individual eyelashes.

Pros of Eyelash Extensions

  • Can receive a look similar to mascara or bolder

  • Appointments every 2-3 weeks

  • May be able to bridge a small gap if you are missing a section of eyelashes

  • Easy to take care of and maintain

Cons of Eyelash Extensions

  • Consistent appointments are necessary (up to 3 hours per fill every 2-3 weeks)

  • Can get twisted and tangled if sleeping on your side or face

  • No touching and rubbing of the eyes

  • Possible reaction (or developed overtime reaction) to the adhesive

Lash Lift

Welcome the new baby! This "new" process is based off of a lash perm. The lash perms of even a few years ago were still not showing significant results and therefore not used by many estheticians. As technology has progressed, however, the latest lash lifts are producing the wow factor that so many clients seek after. I am impressed and a believer in this service and excited to see additional boosts to what is already offered.
